Victoria Public Hall Closes After One-Day Public Opening, Set to Reopen Next Week
A day after reopening to the public following a 16-year closure, the restored Victoria Public Hall was shut again from Saturday as part of a planned “dry run,” officials of the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) said.
The brief opening was meant to assess crowd movement and visitor response inside the heritage structure. Based on feedback, minor renovation works and additional amenities - including a sound room - will be completed before reopening. The hall is expected to reopen next week and function as a daily public cultural space.
Despite being open for just one day, the hall attracted large crowds, with visitors showing keen interest in heritage displays, rare musical instruments, interactive exhibits, and a life-sized chess board. Entry was free, with bookings made through the GCC website, which is currently unavailable.
