To facilitate voter name inclusion and deletion, special camps are being conducted today and tomorrow across Tamil Nadu at all polling stations.
Following the release of the draft electoral roll on November 19, the total number of voters in Tamil Nadu has dropped from 6.41 crore to 5.43 crore. As part of the revision process, over 97 lakh names, including those of deceased voters, have been removed from the list.
Focus on Eligible and New Voters
The revision exercise aims to re-include eligible voters whose names were removed and to enroll new voters who have completed 18 years of age. Applications are currently being accepted for this purpose, and so far, 1.83 lakh applications have been received.
Statewide Special Camps
To speed up the process, special voter registration camps are being held at nearly 75,000 polling stations across the state. During these camps, voters can:
- Apply for new voter registration
- Request corrections in existing voter details
- Submit applications for name deletion
The initiative is being carried out under the supervision of the Election Commission of India, ensuring that all eligible citizens have the opportunity to be included in the electoral rolls before final publication.
These camps are expected to benefit lakhs of voters and strengthen the accuracy of the voter list ahead of upcoming elections.
