The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for heavy rainfall in parts of Tamil Nadu. According to the weather update, 4 districts are likely to receive heavy rain today (January 24), while 9 districts may experience heavy rainfall tomorrow (January 25).
Heavy Rain Alert – January 24 (Today)
Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is expected in coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in the following districts:
- Chengalpattu
- Villupuram
- Cuddalore
- Mayiladuthurai
- Puducherry
- Karaikal
Heavy Rain Alert – January 25 (Tomorrow)
Heavy rain is likely at isolated places in 9 districts:
- Chengalpattu
- Tiruvannamalai
- Salem
- Namakkal
- Kallakurichi
- Villupuram
- Cuddalore
- Thanjavur
- Ramanathapuram
- Puducherry
Temperature Outlook
No major change is expected in minimum temperatures across Tamil Nadu from January 24 to 26. However, temperatures may be 2–3°C above normal at a few places.
Fishermen Warning
- On January 24, strong winds of 40–50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are expected along the north Tamil Nadu coast.
- On January 25, similar wind conditions are likely over the Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar, and Comorin Sea.
Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea on these days.
