IndiGo Cancels 717 Domestic Flights Following DGCA Order

Posted on: 24/Jan/2026 3:31:19 PM

Following directions from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), airline major IndiGo has cancelled 717 domestic flight services. The cancellations were made in compliance with aviation regulatory norms issued by the Air Transport Regulatory Authority.

Out of the 717 cancelled flights, 364 services connect major metro cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. These cancelled routes fall within the January–March 2026 schedule period.

In response, the Union Government has invited other domestic airlines to take over the domestic routes vacated by IndiGo to ensure passenger connectivity and avoid disruption.

Background of IndiGo Flight Disruptions

IndiGo faced significant operational disruptions during 2025, prompting the Union Government to order a 10% reduction in services during the winter schedule. The airline, which was operating 2,022 flights daily, reduced operations to 1,930 flights per day following government instructions.

Between December 3 and December 5, IndiGo cancelled 2,507 flights, while only 1,858 services were operated during the same period. Due to these large-scale cancellations, over 3 lakh passengers were affected in December 2025, causing widespread inconvenience across the country.

Aviation authorities continue to closely monitor IndiGo’s operations to ensure passenger safety and service reliability.
