Pongal Gift Distribution: January 9 Declared Working Day for Ration Shops in Tamil Nadu
The Tamil Nadu Government has announced that January 9 will be a working day for ration shops across the state to facilitate the smooth distribution of Pongal gift packages.
As part of the Pongal festival celebrations, the government has declared a special benefit package for rice ration card holders, which includes ₹3,000 cash assistance, 1 kg of raw rice, sugar, and a full sugarcane. The distribution of these Pongal gifts will begin through ration shops from January 8.
To manage crowds and ensure timely delivery of benefits, the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Department has ordered ration shops to remain open on January 9, even though it is usually a holiday. As a compensatory measure, February 7 has been declared a holiday for ration shops.
Officials stated that this arrangement will help complete the Pongal gift distribution efficiently and avoid inconvenience to beneficiaries.
