Night Shelter for the Homeless Inaugurated Near Marina Beach, Chennai
Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin inaugurated a night shelter for the homeless near Marina Beach, Chennai, on Monday. The facility has been constructed by the Greater Chennai Corporation behind the Anna Square bus stand.
Built on a 2,400 sq. ft. area at a cost of ₹86 lakh, the shelter can accommodate up to 80 people at a time. It is equipped with essential amenities including beds, mats, pillows, blankets, drinking water, toilets, and ceiling fans, ensuring safe and comfortable overnight stay for homeless individuals.
Speaking to the media, Udhayanidhi Stalin stated that more such night shelters will be established in other parts of the city based on demand, reinforcing the government’s commitment to social welfare and inclusive urban development.
This initiative is expected to provide much-needed relief to homeless residents, especially during cold nights and the monsoon season.
