Tamil Nadu to Build 6-Lane Highway Between Chennai and Vellore
The Tamil Nadu government has announced plans to construct a new 6-lane highway stretching 142 km between Chennai and Vellore. The project, spearheaded by the Tamil Nadu Highways Department, aims to provide faster connectivity while easing congestion on existing routes.
The upcoming highway will link the three major SIPCOT industrial parks at Oragadam, Cheyyar, and Vellore district, creating a seamless corridor for industrial and commercial movement. Once completed, the road will play a crucial role in facilitating cargo transportation to Kattupalli and Ennore ports, boosting logistics efficiency.
Officials said the project will significantly reduce traffic congestion between Sriperumbudur and Vellore along the busy Chennai–Bangalore National Highway, providing smoother travel for both cargo and passenger vehicles.
The new highway is expected to not only improve connectivity but also attract fresh industrial investments by strengthening infrastructure around the SIPCOT hubs.
