High Court Caps Marina Beach Shops at 300

The Madras High Court has ordered the Greater Chennai Corporation to restrict the number of shops on Marina Beach to 300. The case concerning the regulation of commercial establishments along the beach came up for hearing on Wednesday.
During the hearing, the judges stated that permission would be granted for only 300 shops, including food stalls, toy shops, and fancy goods outlets. The court noted that Marina Beach currently has the highest number of shops among beaches in India.
Stressing the importance of restoring and preserving the glory and natural appeal of Marina Beach, the High Court issued this directive to ensure better regulation, improved public access, and an enhanced experience for visitors.
