By-elections will soon be held for four vacant wards in the Chennai Corporation - Ward 59 (Royapuram), Ward 122 (Teynampet), Ward 146 (Valasaravakkam), and Ward 165 (Alandur). These seats became vacant following the demise of the respective councillors.
The Greater Chennai Corporation has announced that a total of 1,02,160 voters are eligible to cast their votes across 98 polling stations in these wards. The official voter list was released by Additional Commissioner V. Jayachandrabhanu Reddy, along with Deputy Commissioner (Revenue and Finance) Prathiviraj and Municipal Revenue Officer K.P. Bhanushandran.
Across Tamil Nadu, 417 local body seats are vacant. This includes 133 urban body posts in 35 districts and 315 rural body posts in 9 districts - Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Tirunelveli, and Tenkasi.
The Tamil Nadu State Election Commission will soon release the official by-election notification and is preparing for the election process.
