The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has forecast light to moderate rainfall across parts of Tamil Nadu over the coming days. The weather is being influenced by two trough systems affecting the region.

According to the RMC, a trough extending up to 0.9 km above mean sea level lies along the North Tamil Nadu coast. Another trough extends from South Konkan to the east-central Arabian Sea, between 1.5 km and 3.1 km above mean sea level, passing off the Karnataka coast.

One or two places in the Western Ghats districts are likely to receive moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph.

The rest of Tamil Nadu, along with Puducherry and Karaikal, may experience light rain with thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places, while dry weather is expected to prevail in other areas.

July 12 to July 14, 2026

Moderate rainfall is likely at isolated places in the Western Ghats districts. The rest of Tamil Nadu is expected to experience dry weather.

July 15, 2026

Light to moderate rainfall is likely at isolated places over the Western Ghats districts. Elsewhere in Tamil Nadu, including Puducherry and Karaikal, dry weather is expected to continue.

July 16, 2026

Light to moderate rainfall is likely at isolated places over the Western Ghats districts, North Tamil Nadu coastal districts, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Dry weather is expected across the remaining parts of the State.
