At Chennai Secretariat yesterday, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu Mr. M.K. Stalin inaugurated 10 playgrounds across Tamil Nadu by video conferencing method. This grabbed the attention of many.
It must be taken into note that in the 2023-24 in the Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department grant request it was announced that steps would be taken to set up small playgrounds in the assembly constituencies to stimulate the fitness and sports development of athletes. It was also announced that it would be named as Muthalamaichar Siru Vilayattuarangam or Chief Minister Small Ground.
As per this announcement chief minister, a small playground has been constructed at a cost of Rs 3 cr in Thiruvarangulam village belonging to Pudukottai district in TN. Similarly, a chief minister small playground has been constructed in Nimmiampattu village in Tirupattur district in TN at a cost of Rs 3 cr and in Sivanmalai village in Tiruppur district in TN at a cost of Rs 3cr.
In Pattakurichi village in Tenkasi district in TN for an amount of Rs 15 cr, a new district sports complex has been constructed. In the same way, for Rs 6.38 cr as many as 5 para sports grounds have been constructed in Chennai-Nehru Park Sports Complex and also in the districts of Trichy, Madurai, Tirunalveli and Cuddalore etc. In Kovilpatti in Thoothukudi district in TN, a premier hockey centre was constructed at a cost of Rs 7 crores.
