Chennai MTC to Launch Mini Electric Buses for Metro Last-Mile Connectivity
In a major boost to Chennai`s public transportation network, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) is planning to introduce mini electric buses to improve last-mile connectivity for Metro Rail commuters. The new buses will connect metro stations with residential areas, narrow streets, and key local destinations where larger buses cannot operate efficiently.
The mini electric buses are expected to accommodate 20 to 30 passengers and will feature modern amenities such as low-floor entry, wheelchair accessibility, CCTV cameras, real-time passenger information systems, and mobile charging facilities. These eco-friendly vehicles will help reduce traffic congestion and carbon emissions while providing a comfortable travel experience.
The initiative supports Tamil Nadu`s vision of expanding sustainable public transport and increasing the adoption of electric vehicles. Once launched, the mini electric bus service is expected to make daily commuting easier and strengthen Chennai Metro`s connectivity across the city.
