Chennai Hosts 50th Annual India Tourist and Industrial Fair at Island Grounds
The 50th edition of the India Tourist and Industrial Fair (ITIF) began on Monday at the Island Grounds, marking a Golden Jubilee celebration. The Tamil Nadu government allocated Rs 1.55 crore for the setup of pavilions showcasing various government departments.
The fair, held annually since 1974 under the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC), aims to bring the government’s welfare schemes closer to the people. State Tourism Minister R Rajendran, Health Minister Ma Subramanian, and Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister PK Sekarbabu attended the inauguration.
This year, the exhibition features:
- 43 department pavilions
- 80 small shops
- 14 private pavilions
- Several food and snack stalls
The fair is expected to generate direct employment for around 6,000 people and indirect livelihood opportunities for nearly 30,000.
Entertainment Zone Highlights
Spread across 80,000 sq ft, with over 25 rides including the giant wheel, octopus, tsunami, capsule, tora tora, swing chair, techno jump, screen tower, and China salambo, plus attractions like a haunted house, snow world, 3D shows, bird exhibition, water roller, and carnival games.

- Adults: Rs 40
- Children (4–10 years), school & college students: Rs 25
- Monday–Friday: 3 pm – 10 pm
- Saturday–Sunday: 11 am – 10 pm
