The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has awarded consultancy contracts for preparing Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for two major metro line extensions: Light House Metro to High Court Metro (Corridor 4 extension) and Tambaram – Guindy – Velachery route extension.

The Corridor 4 extension from Light House Metro to High Court Metro is planned to be approximately 7 km long, aimed at improving metro connectivity to the Marina Beach and Secretariat. This stretch will enhance access for both daily commuters and tourists, while boosting the city’s public transport network.

Another proposed corridor, from Tambaram to Velachery (via Guindy), will span around 21 km and connect suburban areas like Tambaram, Medavakkam, Pallikaranai, and Velachery with the existing Guindy Metro Station on Corridor 1. This corridor is designed to integrate various modes of transport in these regions.

CMRL has awarded the DPR preparation contracts for both projects to M/s Systra MVA Consulting India Pvt Ltd. The DPR for the Light House – High Court extension is valued at ₹38,20,000 and for the Tambaram – Velachery route at ₹96,19,000. The reports are to be submitted within 120 days.

The signing ceremony was presided over by CMRL Managing Director M.A. Siddique, IAS, in the presence of Project Director T. Archunan and Senior Vice President of Systra MVA Consulting India Pvt Ltd, Mr. Parveen Kumar. Senior officials from CMRL and the contracting firm also participated.

The DPRs will evaluate route alignment, passenger projections, multimodal integration, and technical feasibility. These reports will serve as the foundation for informed decision-making and future implementation. According to CMRL, these projects are part of their commitment to creating a sustainable, future-ready public transport system to meet Chennai’s growing urban mobility needs.
