When operational, the bullet train is expected to slash travel time between Chennai and Hyderabad to about 2 hours and 20 minutes, a massive improvement over the 12–14 hours by conventional trains and 8–9 hours by road.

Land Requirements and Technical Features

Survey operations and preliminary planning for land acquisition are currently underway.
Key details include:

- 223.44 hectares of land required in Tamil Nadu
- No forest land is involved
- An 11.6-km-long tunnel is proposed
- Multiple crossings with highways and utility lines have been identified

Major Boost for India’s High-Speed Rail Network

The Chennai - Hyderabad bullet train is part of India’s expanding high-speed rail vision, aimed at transforming intercity travel with modern infrastructure, cutting-edge technology, and drastically reduced transit times.

Once the Tamil Nadu government gives its nod, the DPR will be completed swiftly, paving the way for approvals and subsequent construction phases.
