Tamil Nadu Government Directs Clearance of All NHIS Insurance Claims by August 31

The Tamil Nadu Treasuries and Accounts Department has instructed officials to expedite the disposal of all pending claims under the New Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) for government employees and pensioners by adhering to strict timelines through District Level Empowered Committee (DLEC) meetings.

In a circular, Director of Treasuries and Accounts T. Charusree directed all Joint Directors of Health Services and District Treasury Officers to convene DLEC meetings without delay to clear pending claims under NHIS 2021 (Employees) and NHIS 2022 (Pensioners), including claims arising from court orders.

As per the circular, all claims received up to May 31 must be placed before the DLEC and disposed of on or before July 31. Claims received up to June 30 must be cleared by August 31, 2026. The department has emphasised that no claim should remain pending beyond these prescribed deadlines.

The circular also directs Joint Directors of Health Services and District Treasury Officers to work in close coordination to ensure the timely conduct of DLEC meetings. The Personal Assistant (Accounts) to the District Collector will act as the nodal officer responsible for convening the committee meetings and facilitating the claim settlement process.

The department further clarified that the revised claim-processing procedures introduced under NHIS 2026 will apply only to hospital admissions from July 1, 2026, while claims related to earlier admissions will continue to be processed under the existing guidelines.
