There are about 8 lakhs huts across the state of Tamil Nadu
People who live in the huts in the state of Tamil Nadu would be benefited as the state has issued detailed guidelines to identify beneficiaries to build houses for them. This would be under the Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam scheme. The superb piece of information is that the TN govt has allotted Rs 3500 cr to construct about one lakh houses.
The rural development and panchayati raj department has issued guidelines and according to the guidelines only households with patta, ownership documents and legal inheritance would be eligible for the scheme. It has been identified by a survey that 8lakhs huts are present in TN.
Point is that all the houses on poramboke land, huts which are occupied by tenants, huts that are used for commercial purposes, huts with RCC, metal sheet roofs, and occupants who own a house elsewhere would not be eligible for this.
Features of the houses:
It is learnt that each house that would be constructed would have a plinth area of 300sqft with a living room, kitchen, bedroom, toilet, tiled roof, water connection and power connection etc. This was according to an official. He added that in the grouped areas the TN govt would also provide infrastructure like roads, street lights, drinking water facilities and public toilets etc.
In case of individual habitations, an amount of Rs 12000 would be provided under the Swachh Bharat Mission. It must be recalled that in 2010 this scheme was originally launched as Kalaignar Veedu Vazhangum Thittam.
Houses for nomads and tribes etc:
Under the PM-Janmam scheme, the TN government would also construct houses for nomads and scheduled tribes. The main aim would be to make sure that there are no encroachments and people get a hygienic habitat to live in.
