Chennai Central Railway Station Waiting Halls and Dormitories to Be Modernised
To enhance passenger comfort and station infrastructure, the Southern Railway - Chennai Division has decided to modernise the existing waiting halls and dormitory facilities at Chennai Central Railway Station.
The upgrade will be carried out under the Renovate, Operate, Maintain and Transfer (ROMT) model, transforming the currently railway-maintained facilities into modern, well-managed, and passenger-friendly short-stay accommodations.
Key Features of the Upgrade
- Renovation of 9 air-conditioned rooms
- Modernisation of 23 AC beds in the men’s dormitory
- Upgrade of 5 beds in the women’s dormitory
- Refurbishment of unused spaces for better utilisation
- Improved safety, hygiene, and overall ambience
Located in the concourse area, the facilities offer easy access to platforms, shops, restaurants, and essential services, making them ideal for passengers with transit, medical, business, or tourist travel needs.

- Firms invited through e-tendering
- Contract period: 5 years
- Extension: Up to 2 years based on performance
