CMRL Advisory: Balance in Lost Metro Travel and Singara Chennai Cards Not Recoverable
Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has issued an important clarification stating that the balance amount in a lost metro travel card cannot be transferred to a replacement card or refunded under any circumstances.
In an official statement, CMRL said that Chennai Metro Travel Cards and Singara Chennai Cards are used for metro travel and parking payments. However, if these cards are lost or misplaced, the remaining balance cannot be recovered, transferred, or refunded.
Reason Behind the Policy
CMRL explained that, from a technical and security standpoint, retrieving the balance from a lost card is not feasible. As per Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines and card service provider policies, refunding or transferring the balance of a lost Singara Chennai Card is not permitted.
Officials pointed out that if a card is lost, there is a risk of misuse by another person, which is why balance recovery is restricted. This measure is intended to ensure secure and reliable services for all passengers.
Advisory to Passengers
CMRL has advised commuters to handle their travel cards with extra care to avoid financial loss. The metro operator expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and reaffirmed its commitment to providing a safe, dependable, and passenger-friendly travel experience.
The statement also added that as CMRL moves towards upgraded systems and improved technology, passenger cooperation and feedback remain crucial to enhancing services.
