The Greater Chennai Corporation has announced plans to establish 26 new bus stops across the city under the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Development Scheme.
Modern Stainless-Steel Structures
All upcoming bus stops will be constructed using stainless steel, ensuring durability and a modern design. The project, estimated at ₹3.73 crore, aims to improve public transport infrastructure and commuter convenience.
Locations and Key Areas
The new bus stops will be installed in several key locations, including Velachery, Surappettai, Madhavaram, Manali, Kotturpuram, MGR Nagar, Mandaivel, Besant Nagar, and Mylapore.
- Bus stops in Surappettai, Manali, and Madhavaram will each cost ₹15.68 lakh.
- The bus stop to be built on Kotturpuram Gandhi Mandapam Road, opposite Anna Centenary Library, will cost ₹22.58 lakh.
- Two additional bus stops will be constructed along Loop Road in Mylapore.
Enhanced Public Amenities
The new bus stops will be located near educational institutions and remote areas, providing better accessibility and shelter for daily commuters. Each stop will feature modern facilities for passenger comfort and safety.
Completion Timeline
Following recent approvals and fund allocation, construction work is underway. The new stainless-steel bus stops are expected to be completed by December 2025, providing Chennai with a refreshed, commuter-friendly public transport infrastructure.
