Tamil Nadu Weather Alert: Temperature to Rise by Up to 4°C for Next 4 Days, IMD Warns of Heat Discomfort

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has issued a heat alert for Tamil Nadu, warning that maximum temperatures could rise by 2°C to 4°C above normal from July 13 to July 16. The weather department said the increase in temperature may cause heat-related discomfort for the public across several parts of the State, including Puducherry and Karaikal.

In Chennai and its suburbs, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy, with maximum temperatures likely to touch 38°C to 39°C, while minimum temperatures may remain around 28°C to 29°C.

The weather department has also forecast strong winds over the Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar, and Comorin Sea on July 15 and 16, with wind speeds of 45–55 kmph, gusting up to 65 kmph. Similar wind conditions are expected over the Andaman Sea, North Andhra coast, and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal.

According to the weather department, temperatures during the past 24 hours were 2°C to 4°C above normal in several parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. On Sunday, 12 locations across the State recorded temperatures above 100°F, with Madurai Airport registering the highest at 105.8°F, followed by Vellore (105.6°F) and Madurai city (104.4°F).

The intense heat has caused discomfort in many districts, prompting people to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities. The weather department has advised residents to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours, and take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses.
