In the latest conference conducted by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), a decision was passed yesterday, Friday, September 29th, to impose an on-the-spot penalty of Rs. 10,000 if stray cattle are caught on the road for a second time.

The meeting of the Greater Chennai Corporation was held at its headquarters, Ripon Building, on Friday, September 29th, presided over by Mayor R. Priya and attended by Deputy Mayor Mu. Mageshkumar and Additional Commissioner Sankarlal. The new rule specifies that an increased penalty of Rs. 10,000 will be imposed if stray cattle are caught on the road for a second time.

Currently, a penalty of Rs. 2,000 is imposed when stray cattle are caught on the road, and a maintenance charge of Rs. 200 per day is collected.

To prevent accidents and other harmful events caused by these stray cattle on the road, the penalty for the first offense has been raised to Rs. 5,000, and the maintenance charges have been increased to Rs. 1,000 from the third day onwards.

It was also decided that if these same stray cattle are caught a second time, the penalty will be Rs. 10,000, and the maintenance charges will remain at Rs. 1,000 from the third day onwards.
