Two wheelers and cars used by the public as their modes of transport have been creating lots of pollution. It was mentioned yesterday by Mr. A. Soundarrajan, CITU president of TN that the deterioration of the public transport system has resulted in the public using their private vehicles more now.

Besanat Nagar beach on Sunday was buzzing with activities. Here, a mini marathon was organised by TNSTEF or Tamil Nadu State Transport Employees Federation. This mini marathon was flagged by Mr. Soundarrajan and Mr. M. Subramanian, health minister. The CITU president later spoke about how to prevent environment pollution, bus, train and water transport must be increased and improved. By this, the number of vehicles on the road would reduce and this would then lead to reduction in the environmental damage.

It must be noted that even if the roads are wider then also the traffic congestion would become more in the coming years. In this scenario, it is important to increase the public modes of transport for the public use. Across 22 locations in TN, marathons were held yesterday. In Chennai, as many as 1500 people participated in the marathon. It is true that the real development is when even the rich people start using public modes of transport.
