In TamilNadu, as per instruction of the transport department, all the Omni buses have to raise its charges from 1 May.
Out of the total 2000 Omni buses
functioning across TamilNadu, Chennai city alone accounts for nearly 700 buses.
Due to hike in diesel rate, price of tyre’s and toll charges, the Omni bus
owners decided to increase the ticket charges.
Accordingly, from 1 May, Rs.40 will be
increased for Semi sleeper Air Buses and additional of Rs. 70 will be charged
for Sleeper AC buses. These charges bring in displeasure among commuters.
But till now, the new rates has not
been implemented in many of the Omni buses and in few buses only 5% of the
price rise has been collected, the sources said.
Government Caution
TamilNadu Government posed its high
opposition on Omni bus ticket price hike. If we hunt down the collection of
high charges during inspection, corresponding Omni buses will be put under
severe action, a senior official says.
TamilNadu Transport Commission officers say that they are not informed concerning the ticket hike well before by the Omni bus owners. If we receive any complaints from people or if we trail any such cases at the time of inspection, respective buses will be scrutinized, officials added.
