Weather Update: Cooler Nights Ahead for Chennai, Ooty Remains Coldest
Ooty continues to be the coldest hill station in the Southern Peninsula. However, over the next two days (December 16 and 17), increased cloud cover and light rainfall are expected to slightly raise night temperatures due to trapped heat and higher humidity.
For KTCC (Chennai) and other coastal districts, there are chances of light to moderate rain on December 16 and 17. Residents are advised to carry umbrellas during this period.
A significant drop in temperatures is forecast between December 19 and 21, with super cool days expected in Chennai. Interior regions of Tamil Nadu are likely to experience even colder conditions during this phase.
Weather experts note that due to the absence of active MJO, prolonged dry conditions have prevailed. With the northeast monsoon largely over, only 10–20 mm of additional rainfall is expected till the end of December. Chennai’s water reservoirs remain full, thanks mainly to the southwest monsoon, preventing a complete monsoon failure this year.
