Sri Devi Karumariamman Temple is one of the most revered Amman temples in Tamil Nadu, dedicated to Goddess Karumariamman, a powerful manifestation of Adi Parashakti. Located in Tiruverkadu near Chennai, the temple is believed to be around 500 to 1,000 years old. The presiding deity is worshipped as a Swayambhu (self-manifested) Goddess, making this temple an important pilgrimage destination for devotees seeking divine blessings, protection, and prosperity.

Temple Architecture

The sanctum houses the self-manifested Goddess Karumariamman beneath a golden vimana. Behind the presiding deity is a majestic form of Mahakali holding a sword, trident, skull, fire, and Damarukam. One of the temple`s unique attractions is the shrine of Marachilai Amman, a sacred wooden idol believed to protect devotees and their families.

The temple also has shrines dedicated to Lord Vinayaka, Lord Murugan with Valli and Deivanai, Lord Srinivasa with Goddess Padmavathi, Sri Anjaneya, Dakshinamurthy, Angala Parameswari, Uchishta Ganapathi, Gayatri, Mahalakshmi, Rajarajeswari, Savithri, Goddess Durga, Sage Agasthya, and Mother Verkanni. The ever-burning Pathi Vilakku (sacred lamp) and the sacred Vibhuti Tank are among the temple`s unique spiritual attractions.

Festivals Celebrated

The Aadi Festival is the grandest celebration of the temple and continues for 12 weeks, ending during the Tamil month of Purattasi. Every Sunday during the festival, the Goddess receives a special abhishekam with 108 pots of milk, followed by a procession. On the ninth Sunday, the Goddess is taken in a beautifully decorated flower palanquin.

Other major festivals celebrated at the temple include Aipasi Annabishekam, Thai Brahmotsavam, Chitra Pournami, Vaikasi Visakam, Masi Magam, Navaratri, Skanda Sashti, and Panguni Uthiram.

Devotees worship Goddess Karumariamman to seek relief from obstacles in marriage, family well-being, prosperity, good health, and protection from negative influences.
