Over 25,800 New Students Enrol in Greater Chennai Corporation Schools This Academic Year

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has admitted 25,840 new students to its schools so far in the current academic year, with admissions continuing across Chennai.

More than 1.11 lakh students are currently studying in 417 GCC-run schools, including higher secondary, secondary, high, middle, and primary schools.

To improve the quality of education, the GCC has upgraded school infrastructure with new buildings, smart classrooms, computer and science laboratories, modern classroom furniture, playgrounds, safe drinking water, and improved sanitation facilities.

The civic body has also introduced several student welfare initiatives, including scholarships for high-performing Class 10 and 12 students, financial assistance for higher education, educational tours, the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme, nutritious evening snacks for students attending special coaching classes, attendance incentives, enhanced sports facilities, and CCTV surveillance to improve student safety.

According to GCC officials, these initiatives are aimed at providing a better learning environment while encouraging higher student enrolment, regular attendance, and improved academic performance in Corporation schools across Chennai.
