Gold prices in Chennai continued their strong upward momentum on Monday, moving closer to the ₹1 lakh mark per sovereign. The price of 22-carat gold jewellery stood at ₹99,680 per sovereign, with the morning rate at ₹12,460 per gram.
In the evening, gold prices rose further by ₹55 per gram, taking the rate to ₹12,515 per gram. The sustained rise is driven by strong global cues and increased investment demand.
Silver prices also edged up. After gaining ₹3 per gram earlier in the day, silver increased by another ₹2 in the evening and is now selling at ₹215 per gram.
With prices rising rapidly, jewellery buyers have been caught off guard as gold continues to trade near historic highs.
