Toll hike at 38 toll plazas in TN from TODAY!!

For all the owners of the vehicles, there is an important piece of information!!

From Sunday midnight or Today hike in the toll fees at 38 toll booths across Tamil Nadu has come into effect.

It must be taken into note that there are 892 toll booths on the 144634km of National Highways or NH across India. In TN alone, there are 82 toll booths operating on the 6606kms of NH and 7 toll booths operating on the state highways.

At 78 toll booths, toll fees are being collected is known to us. Some time back the central government has announced that the toll fees at these booths would be increased in 2 phases. Last April, toll fees were increased by up to Rs 25 at 40 toll booths. Permission has been issued by NHAI or National Highways Authority of India to increase the toll fees at remaining toll booths in September.. Permission was also given to continue increasing the toll fees annually.

In this scenario, toll fees hike came into effect at 38 toll plazas across TN from Sunday midnight onwards. Point to be noted is that toll fees across toll plazas in places like Madurai, Salem, Trichy, Dindigul, Thoothukudi, Ulundurpet, Vikravandi, Moratandi, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri , Samayapuram, Omalur and Mettupatti have been hiked.

From Rs 85 earlier, the toll fees for four wheelers like cars, vans, jeeps etc have been increased to Rs 90 now.  The fare for a 2-way trip has been increased from Rs 125 to Rs 135 now. The NHAI has announced that fares for single journeys have increased from Rs 5 to Rs 45 now and from Rs 10 to Rs 65 for double journeys. It is noteworthy that several political parties are against this hike.
