Tambaram - Chengalpattu Fourth Railway Line Work to Begin Next Month

To improve suburban rail connectivity and handle rising passenger demand, Southern Railway is set to begin construction of the fourth railway line between Tambaram and Chengalpattu by the end of January.
The busy Chennai Beach–Tambaram–Chengalpattu corridor currently operates with only three tracks, despite more than 500 EMU suburban trains running daily. With the Kilambakkam Bus Terminus becoming operational, passenger traffic at Tambaram and Chengalpattu stations has increased significantly.
Approved by the Union Government, the ₹713-crore project will add a 30 km fourth line, enabling the operation of 100 additional suburban trains and easing congestion across Chennai’s suburban rail network.
