Chief Minister Announces 3-Year Extension for 24x7 Shop Operations in Tamil Nadu
On the occasion of the 42nd Traders` Day, during a conference held on May 5 at Maduranthakam by the Tamil Nadu Traders` Association, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that the government order allowing shops and commercial establishments to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, will be extended for another three years.
The existing order, which was implemented in the public interest, is set to expire on June 4. In continuation of this initiative, the Department of Labour Welfare and Skill Development has now issued a new Government Order (D) No. 207, dated 08.05.2025. As per this order, shops and commercial establishments employing 10 or more workers are permitted to function round the clock.
This move is expected to significantly benefit both traders and the general public, enhancing business flexibility while also catering to the needs of consumers at all times.
