Why is the public library in Periyar Nagar in Chennai suddenly grabbing the attention now?
Good news for those aspirants who are preparing for TNPSC, UPSC etc!!
The sensational news is that the public library in Periyar Nagar in Chennai would host coaching classes for the TNPSC and UPSC aspirants. This library is one of the 23 libraries in Chennai under renovation by CMDA or Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority.
It was brought out by district library officer Kavitha that the renovation would get completed by the end of September or by October. To train the students, a private agency would be roped in. Point is that the library would be air-conditioned and would have spaces for co-working.
It must be recollected that in 2024 CMDA took up renovation of 10 libraries in areas like Thiru Vi ka Nagar, Egmore, Harbour, Royapuram, R.K. Nagar and Perambur at a cost of Rs 50cr. Afterwards, more libraries were added to this.
It is superb to note that 3 public libraries located in Anna Nagar, Ashok Nagar and Gandhi Nagar would turn into co-working spaces with cafes and air-conditioning etc. As per Mr. Elango Chandran, joint director, directorate of public libraries it was clear that once renovation gets completed the footfall would increase in the libraries in Chennai. He added that the branch library on Bharathi Salai was also under consideration.
