Tamil Nadu to Resume New Ration Card Distribution After 7-Month Gap; 3 Lakh Families to Benefit

The Tamil Nadu government will resume issuing new ration cards next week after a nearly seven-month suspension that began on December 16 due to the Assembly election process.

Around six lakh applications have been received, and nearly three lakh eligible families have been identified to receive ration cards in the first phase. The distribution will be launched by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay from Perambur and will take place simultaneously across the State.

According to the Food and Civil Supplies Department, ration cards will be issued in phases to all eligible applicants. Around 21,000 applications submitted until March have been rejected, while verification of the remaining applications is still underway.

The phased distribution aims to ensure that all eligible families receive their new ration cards as the verification process continues across Tamil Nadu.
