IndiGo Operates Airbus Flights from Trichy to Chennai Until Month-End, Other Services Cancelled
Trichy International Airport currently operates domestic flight services to major cities including New Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Mumbai. These services are operated by IndiGo Airlines using ATR aircraft, which have a seating capacity of 76 passengers.
On the Trichy–Chennai sector, IndiGo usually operates six daily flights at 7:35 AM, 10:35 AM, 12:40 PM, 2:55 PM, 7:45 PM, and 10:15 PM.
However, the airline has announced a temporary change in operations. From Tuesday until the 31st of this month, IndiGo will operate only two services on this route - at 10:35 AM and 5:55 PM - using Airbus aircraft instead of ATRs. Airbus aircraft can accommodate up to 180 passengers, offering significantly higher seating capacity.
All other Trichy–Chennai flights during this period have been cancelled. The airline has decided to deploy larger aircraft keeping in mind the holiday season rush and increased passenger demand. Whether limiting operations to just two high-capacity flights will fully meet public travel needs will become clear once services are in operation.
