The final speed trial for Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) Corridor 4 Phase II stretch from Vadapalani to Poonamallee Bypass is expected to take place by the third week of February. This trial will be conducted before receiving the mandatory regulatory approval for passenger operations.
CMRS Inspection Completed
The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), Anant Madhukar Chowdhary (Bengaluru Circle), carried out statutory inspections on February 11 and 12 for the second consecutive day.
Inspection stretch: Iyyapanthangal to Vadapalani
Distance covered: 8.5 km
Total priority corridor length: 14.64 km
Stations inspected: 11 stations between Poonamallee Bypass and Vadapalani
Key stations: Porur Junction and Iyyapanthangal
Safety Checks Conducted
According to a CMRL release, the inspection focused on:
- Electrical systems
- Track alignment
- Civil infrastructure
These checks are part of the mandatory safety clearance process before the start of commercial passenger services.
Service Extension Decision
CMRL has decided to extend metro services up to Vadapalani instead of commissioning the line only up to Porur Junction. The decision was taken to avoid limited ridership, as direct connectivity with the operational Phase I network is available only at Vadapalani.
With inspections nearing completion and the final speed trial scheduled soon, the stretch is moving closer to the launch of passenger services.
