Widespread Rain Lashes Chennai and Suburban Areas
Chennai and its suburban regions have been witnessing widespread rainfall since the morning of December 16, following earlier warnings issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai.
According to the weather department, a lower atmospheric circulation prevailing over southern Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas is influencing weather conditions across the State. As forecast, moderate rain is likely at a few places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on Tuesday.
In line with the advisory, heavy rain has been reported across several parts of Chennai, including Koyambedu, Vadapalani, Kodambakkam, Egmore, Parrys, Mylapore, Ayanavaram, and Villivakkam. North Chennai localities such as Vyasarpadi, Valluvar Nagar, Tiruvottiyur, and Kolathur have also experienced intense spells of rain.
The Chennai Meteorological Centre has stated that moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely to continue across Chennai and its suburbs until 1 PM today.
