Victoria Public Hall to Reopen in October After Major Renovation
The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has confirmed that the iconic Victoria Public Hall will reopen in October under the Singara Chennai 2.0 project, following a ₹32.62 crore restoration.
Deputy Mayor M. Magesh Kumaar stated that the renovation is nearly complete, with only minor flooring and landscaping works pending. The reopening is expected before the second week of October, once the Chief Minister confirms the date.
As part of the revamp:
- Ground floor will feature a museum.
- First floor will serve as a cultural and administrative space with an auditorium for art and exhibitions.
- Works included interior and exterior restoration, roof repairs, upgraded wooden flooring, artistic lighting, and landscaping while preserving the heritage structure.
Restoration began in March 2023 and ensures the hall is now equipped to withstand natural calamities. Once reopened, the hall will join Chennai’s list of tourist attractions.
