It is festival season in Chennai and the residents are very eager to celebrate with their families.

Tomorrow, 27th of August is the Vinayagar Chathurthi festival. On this occasion, the prices of puja items, flowers and fruits have increased now in Chennai.

Normally, during the auspicious days and festivals, the prices of flowers etc would increase in the Koyambedu flower market in Chennai. Now, the prices of flowers, fruit and puja items like bananas, pulses, peanuts, aval, sugarcane etc have increased.

Since Monday morning, the Koyambedu market has been brimming with people and retailers etc. It must be taken into account that outside the Koyambedu market the vendors have kept huge quantities of goods for sales purposes. This has been creating many issues for the vehicles entering and leaving the market. The entire Koyambedu market area has become congested.

On Monday, a kilo of marigold that was sold for Rs 220 previously was sold for Rs 300. A kilo of mallipoo was sold for Rs 500 and earlier it was sold for Rs 350. One kilo of kanakambaram was sold for Rs 150 and earlier it was sold for Rs 100.

From Rs 140 per kilo, the apples were sold for Rs 180 now and from Rs 80 the oranges were sold for Rs 100. It must be noted that the prices of other fruits have also increased by Rs 20 to Rs 50. The prices would continue throughout this month and this was mentioned by wholesale traders.
