Students who have completed their Plus Two (Class 12) will receive their mark sheets and transfer certificates (TC) directly from their schools. In addition to these, several other documents are essential for college admissions, scholarships, and other official processes.
Essential Certificates for All Students
Aadhaar ID Card
The Aadhaar card, issued by UIDAI, is a vital identity document. To obtain it, students must submit proof of identity, address, and date of birth at an Aadhaar center. The card will be sent to the applicant’s address within 90 days.
Caste Certificate
Needed to access reservation benefits. Students can apply at e-service centers with their Aadhaar card, parent’s caste certificate, and a passport-sized photograph. The issued certificate is valid permanently.
Income Certificate
This is required for educational assistance, education loans, and other government benefits. Students must submit parents’ income proof, Aadhaar card, ration card, and passport-sized photo at e-service centers. This certificate is valid only for a limited period.
Birth Certificate
Most students will have already received a birth certificate. Those who haven’t can apply online through the Tamil Nadu government portal. For any corrections in date, month, or year of birth, students must approach the concerned municipal court with valid documents and obtain an order. They can then apply to the Directorate of Government Examinations for correction in school certificates.
Additional Certificates (If Applicable)
Residence Certificate (Nativity Certificate)
This is required for students seeking admission under the Tamil Nadu government quota, unless they have studied from Class 8 to Plus Two in the state. Others, including out-of-state students, can join colleges under the general category. Residence certificates can be obtained from e-service centers with a passport-sized photo, Aadhaar, birth certificate, and self-declaration.
First Generation Graduate Certificate
Students who are the first in their family to graduate can obtain this certificate to avail special concessions and scholarships.
Disability Certificate, Ex-Servicemen’s Heir Certificate, Sports Certificates
These may be required depending on the individual’s eligibility and application type.
Correction of Name or Initials in Certificates
To correct or change a name or initials in school certificates, students must apply through the Stationery and Printing Department for Gazette publication. The application should include the reason for the change, relevant documents, and be countersigned by a Gazetted Officer. Once published in the Gazette, students can apprproach the Directorate of Government Examinations to make official changes in their certificates.
Students are advised to collect and organize all required documents well in advance to avoid last-minute delays during the college admission process.
