The Director of the Chennai Meteorological Centre, Mr S. Balachandran, informed that a widespread low-pressure zone has developed and stabilised from North to South Tamil Nadu.

TN is deficient of rainfall by 12 percent
Nearly 35 percent of total rainfall in Tamil Nadu is received through southwest monsoon. This is deficient by 12 percent this year as of Tuesday, state report from the India Meteorological Department.
