This is rare indeed. Rains are going to continue for another 1 hour or so. The last time September got day rains was on Sept 11, 2013 and 29th September, 2011.

Prospects for medium rain in the next 5 days in Tamil Nadu
The Chennai Meteorological Centre has informed that there are prospects of medium rain in Tamil Nadu for the next 5 days from 1st September to 5th September.

Weather Forecast for Sep 1: Good Monsoon rains likely over Chennai
A Cyclonic Circulation is also seen over Comorian area and a trough is also seen along the East Coast. Due to these combined weather systems, we expect light to moderate showers over South Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

August to end wet, say weather expert
This month may end with a wet note, as weather experts expect thunderstorms in a few parts of the state today. In the past 5 years, this year is said to be the wettest southwest monsoon season.

Ghats and Western district in TN to get rains till tomorrow
As posted yesterday, the Ghats in Valparai, Nilgiris, Dindigul, Theni, Coutrallam-Papansam belt in Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari belt are getting rains and this will continue for another 2 days.
