It looks like that rain gods have been too kind in terms of precipitation over the state of Tamil Nadu including Chennai. To such an extent that rains of varied intensity have been lashing the state in the last few weeks.

The Chennai Meteorological Centre has informed that there are prospects of heavy rain in a few places in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Southwest Monsoon this year has been more than kind to the state of Tamil Nadu. So much so that rains of varied intensity have been lashing the state for the past few weeks.

This year, the performance of Southwest Monsoon was pretty good in terms of precipitation over Tamil Nadu including Chennai. The state lies in a rain shadow area; as a consequence during Southwest Monsoon.

This is rare indeed. Rains are going to continue for another 1 hour or so. The last time September got day rains was on Sept 11, 2013 and 29th September, 2011.

The Chennai Meteorological Centre has informed that there are prospects of medium rain in Tamil Nadu for the next 5 days from 1st September to 5th September.

A Cyclonic Circulation is also seen over Comorian area and a trough is also seen along the East Coast. Due to these combined weather systems, we expect light to moderate showers over South Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
