Chennai flood scare has once again returned to haunt the people, with the state capital recording extremely heavy rains to the tune of 140 mm on span of 14 hours on Thursday.

The former director of the Regional Meteorological Centres Area Cyclone Warning Centre - S.R Ramanan, has informed said that rain in Chennai is expected to continue and there are chances for a cyclone formation under the name Demiri near the Bay of Bengal.

Moderate to heavy rains will continue to lash the state of Tamil Nadu including Chennai for the next 2-3 days. Few areas may also see one or two spells of very heavy rains during the same time period. Instances of thunderstorm and lightning are also expected over some places.

Heaviest spell of rains since December 1st, 2015, many places have got over 100 mm in last 2 hours, its going to rain with high intensity for next 1 hour.

The cyclonic circulation over Sri Lanka and adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal has further strengthened into a low-pressure area over the same region.
