Storm Kai Tak continues to linger in the South China Sea close to the Malay Peninsula. The system has now become a depression and in the next 24 hours, is expected to hit the Malay Peninsula giving heavy rains over the region.

Chennai weather has remained dry for the past two weeks. In fact, there has not been any rainfall activity observed over the city during this time.

Tropical storm Kai Tak has already given hefty rains in Philippines. Moreover, due to the storm, several people have lost their lives while many continue to remain missing.

As predicted by Skymet, scattered light to moderate rain has occurred over southern parts of Tamil Nadu. In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Tuesday, Atiramapattinam, Tondi, and Tuticorin witnessed light rains to the tune of 3 mm.

After a prolonged dry spell due to weak Northeast Monsoon, the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu received scattered light rains on December 16 and 17.

The rain show over Chennai has been on a break for almost last 15 days as the city has not recorded any rains ever since December began, except for the first one or two days.
