In the months of January and February, rains remained very scanty over the entire Southern Peninsula. Situation was no different as the first 10 days of March also remained dry and warm for almost all the southern states.

The month of February remained mainly dry for Chennai, except for February 7 when both the observatories of city, Meenambakkam and Nungambakkam received 1 mm of rain each.
