According to the Weather Bureau, the cyclone Gaja, which formed recently over the Bay of Bengal and created heavy damage and great havoc in the delta districts of the state of Tamil Nadu, has now crossed Kerala and entered the Arabian sea.

Yesterday Deep Depression which was lying over Southeast parts of Arabian Sea and adjoining parts of Lakshadweep Islands, has now moved West-northwestwards.

Instruments anchored deep inside the Bay of Bengal at a depth of 3000m showed signs of likely cyclonic storm. They were of about 500m deep underwater about one week ago. The weather systems started journeying along the Tamil Nadu

Cyclone Gaja lashed Tamil Nadu with heavy rains during the last 24 hours, but the state capital of Chennai escaped the fury of the storm. The city only managed with light showers, with few intense spells over some isolated pockets.

The cyclone warning cone bearing the number 10 was set up at the Port of Nagapattinam after a gap of 40 years because of the cyclone Gaja.
