It has been announced that the underground tunnel track work of the Chennai Metro Rail Project in the section between Nehru Nagar and Thirumangalam stations is completed. This will be opened for public service in 2 months.

Chennai Metro Rail Limited has started laying tracks between Washermanpet Metro Rail station to AG-DMS Metro Rail station, a distance of about 13 km. Laying of track upto Chennai Central.

As a second phase of the project, three new routes are set to get metro services and the second project report for the same is submitted to the Tamil Nadu government. Metro rail flies between Chennai Koyambedu and Meenambakkam every day.
