Vitamin D has been in news off late and likely to stay. Recently carried researches across the country’s 5 zones showed that about 69% were Vitamin D deficient, while another 15% showed insufficient levels.

Vitamin D is created when the body gets exposed to direct sunlight. Moreover, some foods like eggs, meat and fish also contains the vitamin. According to physicians, it is necessary to have healthy, strong bones. Studies that were performed on several women and men revealed women between ages 16 30, and men between ages 31 and 60 face higher deficiency risk. Hydroxy Vitamin D test was used in the test.

Our body requires Vitamin D of the range 30 to 100 nanograms/ml; below 20 nanograms/ml is said to be deficiency level. Some experts question the test stating how it would reflect Vitamin D3’s true deficiency. With the country receiving plenty of sunshine, deficiency seems paradoxical. Vitamin D is regarded to be vital for bone health.

According to renowned surgeons, patients using Vitamin D supplements have been showing improvements. They tend to feel better and relaxed. However, the experts also state that patients are to avoid consuming too much supplements, since it could be toxic.
