In Tamil Nadu, there are many students who have a desire to join medical courses in the government medical colleges. These students would feel delighted now by this superb news.
In the past 10 days, the National Medical Commission had completed inspection in 4 out of 11 new medical colleges. This was mentioned by the TN health minister, Mr, M. Subramaniam. He added that TN would add 1650 MBBS seats and by that there would be a total of 5200 medical seats in the medical colleges in TN provided all colleges get sanction from the apex medical body.
In places like Namakkal, Krishnangiri, Tirupur and Dindigul, the committee had made surprise inspections and they have made no adverse comments till now. In the next few days, the committee would be making their presence at the remaining 7 medical colleges.
Infrastructure plus human resource facilities that are needed to admit the students for the first year MBBS course in these newly constructed colleges would be verified by the panel of inspectors appointed by the apex medical body.
It was revealed by the director of medical education Dr. R. Narayanababu that the anatomy, physiology and biochemistry labs, library, hostels etc required for the first year students are nearing completion.For the construction of these buildings, the TN government had set aside a mammoth amount of Rs 4000 crores. Most districts belonging to TN would have atleast one government based medical college in the future.
By these new medical colleges, it would be possible to expand tertiary care to the districts in TN. It is worth mentioning that these new medical colleges would help the health department to provide quality training at an affordable cost. Specialty as well as super speciality care would be provided for free for those who live in the areas. For the sake of quality care, most of these medical colleges would have 700 to 750 beds hospitals attached.
It must be taken into note that as a part of the national mission to increase the number of medical colleges across India the Centre had given permission to TN to start 11 new medical colleges.
