For those commuters who depend on suburban train services in Chennai, here comes an important announcement!!
On Friday, 5th February 2021, the Southern Railway made it clear that the suburban train services would not resume in Chennai until normality is restored.
Many commuters who travel from the suburbs to the Chennai city have been finding it difficult as the train services are operated only in the non peak hours. This issue would be sorted out in the coming days as the situation is improving and this was according to the general manager of Southern Railways, Mr. John Thomas. He then confirmed that the railways would resume regular services that existed during pre-lockdown only after the restoration of total normalcy.
It is now hinted that once normalcy gets restored then issues like commuters having to stand in long queues (due to lesser number of ticket counters and issuing season tickets for regular commuters etc would be resolved. For the safety of the commuters, the security has been enhanced at all the MRTS stations in Chennai plus CCTV cameras would be installed at all the stations.
The general manager of SR later spoke about the 27 projects costing Rs 30951 crores for 3128 km fall fully or partly in TN. Fact is that these projects are in various stages of planning, approval and execution.
